On Thursday, the powers that be started setting up the 9-11 Memorial Lights on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage. On Friday night, they tested them out. Here was the view from across the street. They're stunning, aren't they?
If you get a chance, you should get down to Rector Street this week and see the beams up close. They're just so majestic and affecting in person, especially with those sparkly floating bits in the beam of light...how do they get those sparklies to float up through the beams like they're traveling to heaven? The following is a picture I took in 2004, but you can see the sparkly bits better here:
